Communion and Grace

We're getting new carpet tomorrow! When we started the building project a year and a half ago, Jon told me when we were done we could get new carpet OR wait till Logan died. Since both have happened, it's now time. We will finish clearing the room today, and can't help thinking of Logan...what a great dog she was!! Lots of great memories.
We took communion at church this morning and while we were encouraged to be completely silent and reflective, which is fine, I kept thinking of His words "do this in remembrance of Me". You know when we gather for a funeral or visitation, there is a lot of remembering going on. What would it be like to remember Jesus after He was "gone" with others who knew Him firsthand? Can you imagine the stories? The joy He brought? The laughter of shared friendships? The overwhelming desire to love and treasure each other the way He had loved and treasured them? We need fresh eyes to see Him present and alive and the source of all.

Thought for the day

My attention has been arrested lately by God's answer when Moses asked, "Who shall I say has sent me?" God answers, "Say, 'I Am has sent me. I Am is His name.'" What a powerful name! He is eternal, forever past, forever future, all-powerful, all-knowing, creator of heavens and earth and life. He holds all of creation and time in His hand, yet when asked His name, He says simply, "I Am". Right here. Right now. In this moment and in this place. In the realization of every need, every joy, every heartache, every pain, every tear, every gift...."I Am". How can we feel alone? How can we feel abandoned? How can He not be everything we could ever need? It's been a kind of adventure to just pick an ordinary moment, stop, and realize "I Am" really is present. It is amazing. All is wonder. All is grace.

Melt Our Hearts, Lord

It's Saturday!! Last night we kept Tre and Tru overnight so Tabbi could work today. Trever is a little better but a long way from "well" yet. He's had a really tough virus! Jon's pain level is down, and he's been able to cut down on his pain medication...good news! He still didn't sleep well last night...hoping he'll have a better night tonight. My friend that had a double lung transplant is doing SO well. She'll be leaving the hospital Monday or Tuesday, but will need to keep living in the area for I think 3 months to be monitored by her doctors. It is such a privilege to see God answer prayer! I'm really enjoying my "Wednesday night girls" group. I will be learning so much from these ladies about gratitude, contentment, and grace. Their lives testify to God's mercy and power and grace in very extreme circumstances...they are a blessing!

Thought for the day

He who is forgiven much, loves much. I am seeing first hand how those whose lives have been ravaged by sin, hopelessness, mistreatment, and difficult circumstances are lifted by the grace of God into a level of peace, contentment, and gratitude that shames the rest of us. We "in the church" are SO comfortable and spoiled that we quibble, pout, and argue over nothing. We whine and complain about the slightest challenge or inconvenience and expect God to answer when we snap our fingers. What happened to waking up in the morning thanking God that He has seen fit to love us and send His Son to die for our sins? When was the last time that that truth alone brought us joy? Then, in addition, He has given us so many blessings. Have we thanked Him lately...this week...today? I'm not pointing a finger at others without pointing it at myself. Let us allow God to melt our hearts again with the wonder of His love and grace.

Seasons

It's time for statements again...seems like I just posted that. Today was pretty nice, but tomorrow the high will be around 15 I think. I should check that cool little weather gadget on my blog! Things are looking more promising for Greg and Megan selling the house...next couple of days may be big...PRAY!!
We were so excited to see "Chuck" back on TV tonight...you know it's the simple things in life :) I'm hoping to get caught up on some things around here this week...still walking regularly (though not this weekend) and so far my foot is okay...YAY!!

Thought for the day

I apparently live in the right climate for me. I don't like the most extreme days of winter or summer, but it's February and I'm just starting to think I will enjoy seeing spring come even though I'm still okay with some more winter (6 weeks according to Phil today). I've probably said before that I like the change of seasons. They always make be think about the changes in our lives as "seasons" come and go. The spring of new beginnings of any kind at any age...the summer of growth and enjoyment...the fall of full maturity and reaping...the winter of rest or recharging...Throw in the occasional days of barrenness, dryness, celebration, quietness, and chaos and you have a complete life experience that takes the turns and cycles in stride. God promises lives of fruitfulness, days of peace, years of usefulness, all filled with His grace and love until He brings us home to be with Him...then there will be grace for that, too. Fully enjoy the season you find yourself in and don't fear the next...He is sufficient and promises special provision for each one.
